School Commitments
Participation in TAS requires sustained commitment from the school. Committed leadership and a willingness to collaborate, specifically between general and special educators, is crucial for success in this work. By participating in TAS, school staff commit to leading systemic change and challenging beliefs, which are often deeply rooted, about students, instruction, and postsecondary success. Participation is a three-year commitment and includes 1) participation in professional development activities and 2) implementation of mini-grants for TAS initiatives.
1. Professional Development (PD) Activities
School Team Training
PD, Implementation, and Application: School team members must commit to full participation in the work and be willing to participate in observations and coaching twice a year, participate in training evaluation surveys, and provide data to show implementation progress across the three-year cycle. Annual summer week-long training must be attended by the team members. Additional asynchronous training will occur at the schools guided by the coaching.
Observations and Coaching: School team members will agree to complete the internal self-reflections and observations, actively participate in onsite visits from department personnel or their contracted TAS support team members and must be open to coaching and consultation from consultants, specialists, and coaches.
Evaluation Survey Participation: School team members will complete post-training surveys to provide feedback on their experience and will provide data as needed during coaching or training to support implementation.
Intensive Training for Special Education Teachers
2. Implementation of Mini-Grants for TAS Initiatives
The first mini-grant will be for communication access and development supports, and year two will be for supplemental instructional materials aligned to and supporting grade-level, standards-based instruction. The mini-grants will need to be addressed in the discretionary grant portion of ePlan (additional information to follow). Only those schools qualifying for participation will be eligible to receive funds, and schools must complete the TAS activites (see assurances) to remain eligible.
